Wednesday, Feb. 22

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, local chapter: 5:30 p.m. meeting, second floor, Piedmont Community Services.

Wednesday morning Bible study class, sponsored by the Martinsville Senior Center: 10 a.m. with Pastor Zeke Zanatos.

My Child and Me at The Starting Place in Liberty Fair Mall: 10-11 a.m. Free for children ages 5 and younger. Includes play, circle story time, craft and snack. No registration necessary.

Figsboro Community Neighborhood Watch: 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren. In addition to area residents, friends and neighbors of area residents are invited to hear a representative of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office speak on what to watch for (while driving through, etc.) to keep the community safe.

Margaret Caldwell, a representative of Patrick Henry Community College, will be at the Collinsville Branch Library from 10 a.m. to noon to provide information about the On-Ramp Grant program. Martinsville Urgent Care will provide free health screenings and health care information every fourth Thursday: 8-11 a.m., Room 1, Henry County Administration Building. Included are: Blood pressure checks, random blood sugar test; flu shots available; and hearing tests by Ashbrook Audiology. Amedysis Home Health Care will discuss disease management, and Blue Ridge Village will discuss alternative health care needs.

Narcotics Anonymous, New Vision Group: 8 p.m., Classroom A, Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Focus on Youth fundraiser and dinner: 6:30 p.m. at The Gallery on Memorial Boulevard, Martinsville. Tickets are $30 per person. Grady “Skip” Philips, CEO at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be the speaker; music provided by Martinsville High School Jazz Band. The fundraiser is to recognize the 35 years of service provided by Focus on Youth/CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocacy). Proceeds will benefit programs such as Child Abuse Prevention Month; My Stuff Bags, a program designed to provide personal bags to children displaced by violence or other events; and CHINS classes to help first-time offenders rethink their present courses of action and learn how to make positive choices.
